Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience

The Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience (ICN), part of University College London, was founded in 1996 and established in Queen Square in 1998. Researchers at the ICN study the functional and neural organisation of human cognition. In 2001, the Human Behavioural Neuroscience Unit - a specifically designed clinical testing facility - was created within the ICN. This Unit was opened thanks to a generous donation from the Kinross Trust and with additional funding from UCL. It accommodates Queen Square researchers who work with clinical populations or on clinical problems from the perspectives of either fundamental or applied research, and provides testing facilities suitable for clinical studies. In addition to hosting these much-needed facilities, the Unit serves to encourage interchange of knowledge and ideas between the researchers from the different disciplines it houses. A further asset is the full-time neuropsychologist whose remit is to support the different groups' clinical studies. The ICN is a leading provider of research dissemination, hosting weekly seminars and a series of workshops each year.
