ISAPP: Who we are and what we do ?
The International Society for Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology (ISAPP) is a non-profit organization made up of mental health professionals - psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers - working with disturbed adolescents in several parts of the world.
The organization was established in 1984 as an international professional society to fill a void in the mental health arena. It is the only multi-disciplinary international organisation devoted solely to the mental health needs of adolescents.
The principle aim of the organization is to provide a forum for intellectual exchange among professionals concerned with disturbed adolescents.
ISAPP schedules every year several national and international meetings in various parts of the world and a major international congress every four years. Prior congresses have taken place in Paris, Geneva, Chicago, Athens, Aix-en-Provence and Rome. International experts in the area of adolescence invariably head up the list of participants. International congresses attract over a thousand participants from up to twenty different nations.
Beyond the scheduling of professional meetings, ISAPP publishes monographs issued from the conferences presented at the congresses and a regular Newsletter published every 6 months.
The launching of our website ( www.isapp.org ), with special areas available only to ISAPP's Members, gives the opportunity not only to receive our Newsletter, through which you can be informed on the different activities engaged by our Society, but also to be updated about several publications. The Proceedings of the 6 th International Congress held in Rome in 2003, "Treatment in adolescence: Developments in Clinical Work", will be published on-line soon. Several Forums will be activated on the web-site for interactive scientific discussions on adolescence, our common interest.
ISAPP membership allows to have reduction on inscription fees of international conferences, publications, and scientific meetings sponsored by our Society, besides the chance to participate in specific activities designed only for members.
The Executive Committee of ISAPP stands ready to respond to any questions that may be raised by the above description of the organization.
